With springtime well underway and summer just around the corner, there is no better time to give your private sanctuary a touch of French style. I always loved summertime growing up- not only did I spend my summers with my grandparents in Virginia, but it was also when my mother had free-time for little DIY projects at our home. That usually meant she would redecorate my bedroom in some fabulous wallpaper; my favorite was the pale pink, yellow, and sage green flocked flower wallpaper...it was trés magnifique! That may be what gave me my love of whimsical wallpaper; it certainly inspired my aspiration to be an interior designer.

The French have a wonderful way of incorporating daring wallpaper designs into their interiors without them being overwhelming. Whether it is hanging paper into an alcove behind the shelves, or covering the entire wall behind the bed- it creates a unique space that reflects the individuality of the space. This is a fun weekend project that certainly will add that WOW factor to your bedroom.

Maybe hanging wallpaper is making to big of a commitment or statement than you are looking for, but you still want to add drama to your room. Try adding a bold color to your ceiling and trim alongside white walls. The coral ceiling reflects off the white walls creating a soft warm glow. By painting the ceiling molding it carries the drama down by adding just the right amount of impact.

The neutral bedroom in French homes is still the most common design choice. A neutral space allows you to create your own private space without committing to bold design choices. Just add pops of color with throws and cushions. If you long for a warm cozy room warm wood-tones and linen walls create a welcoming spa-like sanctuary.

There is something that is so timelessly chic about a cool, moody, pale gray bedroom that offers that peaceful escape...like a weekend away in the City of Lights. For added impact carry the crown molding down for added impact.

One decidedly French rule about creating a home, whether it is your boudoir or salon, it is important to make it yours. Let your bedroom tell a little something about you. Add a small vase with a bouquet of freshly picked flowers next to your bed. Or each morning after you have made your bed spritz a little bit of lavender linen spray onto your bed. Above all else, enjoy the process.

Which bedroom was your favorite? Please, drop me a note if you liked this post...or have a suggestion for a future one.

À plus tard...D xoxo
